Ciro
A. Scalera
Director – Public Affairs
Ciro Scalera is Director of Public Affairs for Verizon New Jersey.
He is responsible for Economic Development, Workforce Development and
Environmental, Health and Human Services Policy. He also assists in
legislative review and advocacy.
Prior to joining Verizon in 2002, Scalera was Chief of Management and
Policy for the N.J. Office of the Governor. Before his position in
the Governor's Office, he was Executive Director at the Association for
Children of New Jersey for 23 years.
His current responsibilities include: establishing linkages to
important stakeholder communities -- state, county and local
economic/workforce development leaders, construction trades unions,
state departmental leaders and various segments of the state non-profit
community. Scalera has the oversight of minority and women-owned
business organizations in his position on the state Board of Public
Utilities Supplier Diversity Council.
Some current work initiatives include:
Create a statewide coalition of public and private entities committed to
workforce development efforts; develop a unique outreach effort
utilizing the non-profit NJ SHARES utility assistance program to expand
low-income customer enrollment in Verizon’s Lifeline program and oversee
a State Dept. of Labor grant to support training for Verizon ‘s FTTP
initiative in New Jersey.
Scalera is on the Newark Innovation Zone Advisory Board; a member of
the Regional Business Partnership board of trustees; a member of the NJ
Board of Public Utilities Supplier Diversity Development Council;
Trustee for NJ Alliance for Action, the Regional Planning Partnership
and NJ Shares.
He also was on the Board of the NJ Economic Development Authority
from 2002-2006.
Scalera received his BA and his MBA from Rutgers University. He
also has a J.D. from San Francisco Law School.
