Learning is a video conference facility located on the first
floor at 540 Broad Street in Newark. The Center was created
in 2001 to give community organizations and educational
institutions in New Jersey a place to meet, use

In 2007, the Center underwent extensive renovations and is ready for community & educational groups to use
the facility.
The Callahan Center for Distance Learning is dedicated to Gerald F.
Callahan, Jr., who was a Director – External Affairs in New Jersey. “Jerry” as he was affectionately known, was hired by
New Jersey Bell in 1970 as a summer hire. He never left to become the
teacher for which his college degree prepared
him
He spent many years as a community relations manager, establishing
contacts with municipal stakeholders, working with statewide
organizations and developing programs to benefit the company’s image in
the community.
Jerry was loved by the employees he work
with, as well as, countless external affairs contacts he made through
his career.
He also had a special place in his heart for young people and he
dedicated countless hours to programs that would help them become
informed, productive citizens.
The dedication of The Callahan Center for Distance Learning is an
appropriate way to honor Jerry’s memory.
